Die Single erscheint im Vorfeld ihres neuen Albums ‚Hit Parade‘ (Release am 8. September auf Ninja Tune) und folgt auf die kürzlich veröffentlichten Songs ‚Fader‘, ‚The Universe‘ und ‚CooCool‘.
Róisín kommentiert den Track wie folgt:
‚You Knew‘ ist die Geschichte meines Lebens. Ich bin ein offenes Buch, ich lege mich offen und mache meine Beweggründe deutlich. Ich habe oft mutig geliebt und wurde dafür nicht geliebt, und darauf bin ich stolz.
Der Satz ‚You Knew‘ bringt es auf den Punkt. Er könnte auf meinem Grabstein stehen, aber ich habe bereits beschlossen, dass dort stehen wird: ‚Du hattest deine Chance‘.

Róisín comments on the track as follows
“‘You Knew’ is the story of my life. I’m an open book, I put myself on the line and I make my motivations obvious. Many times, I have bravely loved and not been loved in return, and I’m proud of that. The phrase ‘You Knew’ just sums it all up. In fact you could put it on my tombstone, except I’ve already decided it’ll say… ‘You Had Your Chance!’.”
